How to remove location from iPhone photos before sharing

The practical answer

iPhone gives you three useful controls: leave location out of a share, remove it from a saved photo, or stop Camera adding it to new shots. For a batch that also needs device and date details cleaned up, use Spoofzy’s Metadata Cleaner.

Share an iPhone photo without its location

In Photos, select your images and tap Share. Open Options, switch Location off, confirm and choose where to send them. Your library keeps its location information while you share the selected copies without it.

This is handy when you want to keep your own photos organised by place while keeping that detail out of a client handoff or social post. Menu labels can vary by iOS version; Apple’s guide below shows the current controls.

Remove location from a photo in your library

Open the photo in Photos. Choose More → Adjust Location → No Location. On versions that group these controls, open Adjust Info first.

Use this when you want to change the saved photo itself. Keep a separate original if you need the shooting location for your records. Copies already sent to someone else remain separate files.

Stop Camera adding location to new photos

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera → Never. New Camera photos will be taken without location metadata.

This is useful for regular shoots at a private address. If you enjoy browsing your personal photos by location, leave Camera’s permission enabled and use the per-share control when posting.

Check your photo before sending

Sensitive location details can also appear in the picture: a house number, street sign, reflection or familiar landmark. Give the full image a quick look alongside its file information.

Save a copy through the sharing route you plan to use and inspect its location fields with a metadata viewer. For private client work, use a viewer approved for that material.

Ready to share

Clean up a whole batch with Spoofzy

For a regular content handoff, you may also want camera details and capture dates removed. Spoofzy’s Metadata Cleaner gives you separate choices for GPS, device and date fields on supported images, with batch handling in Telegram.

Send the files, choose the information to keep and download the cleaned copies. Orientation is preserved, so your photos remain ready to use. It is a convenient next step when you are preparing several images from the same shoot.

iPhone photo location: common questions

Does switching off Location remove all EXIF data?

The Location control handles location information. Device and date fields can remain. Use Metadata Cleaner when you want to manage those fields too.

Can I clean up photos I already took?

Yes. Use Adjust Location → No Location for a saved photo, or prepare a batch with Metadata Cleaner in Telegram.

Does Reddit remove the location for me?

Upload behaviour can vary by route and file type. Preparing the copy yourself gives you control over what you share; our Reddit metadata guide covers the details.
